Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) - an Introduction

Resumo: 
Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a relatively new functional imaging technique in which current is applied on electrodes on the body, the resulting voltages on the electrodes are measured, and an inverse problem is solved to determine the conductivity distribution in the body's interior.  EIT has applications in medical imaging, industrial process tomography, and geophysics.  EIT systems for imaging and monitoring of lung function are found in hospitals in South America and Europe. This talk provides an introduction to EIT, and how mathematics is used to solve questions of hardware design and to form images.  Examples of EIT for lung imaging of healthy human subjects in the lab at Colorado State University and patients of Children's Hospital of Colorado will be given. The level of the presentation will be suitable for undergraduates after the fifth semester and graduate students.
